Swedish Covenant Midwifery Group Named Only "Triple Aim" Best Practice Group in Illinois
September 2015

The American College of Nurse-Midwives (ACNM) recently designated Swedish Covenant Midwifery Group an ACNM Best Practice facility for “Triple Aim” achievement. To earn “Triple Aim” Best Practice, Swedish Covenant Hospital achieved an average primary cesarean birth rate of less than 23.9%, preterm birth rate of less than 11.4% and an exclusive breastfeeding rate within the first 48 hours of more than 81%. The SCMG Midwifery Group was the only midwifery group in Illinois to earn the distinction. 

Swedish Covenant Hospital Receives Get With The Guidelines-Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award
June 2016

Swedish Covenant Hospital earned the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines®-Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award with Target: StrokeSM Honor Roll. To receive the Silver Plus Quality Achievement Award, hospitals must achieve 85 percent or higher adherence to all Get With The Guidelines-Stroke achievement indicators for at least 12 consecutive months and during the same period achieve 75 percent or higher compliance with five of eight Get With The Guidelines-Stroke Quality measures. 

This award provides further evidence of our ongoing commitment to excellent stroke care. As a designated Primary Stroke Center, we work hard to ensure that we are prepared to address all of our stroke patients' needs.
Swedish Covenant Hospital earns Magnet Recognition® for the second time
October 2015

Swedish Covenant Hospital has earned Magnet Recognition® for nursing excellence for the second time since first receiving the distinction in May 2010. Magnet Recognition is given by the American Nurses Credentialing Center and is the highest honor an organization can receive for professional nursing practice. Swedish Covenant Hospital is one of only 38 Magnet-recognized hospitals in Illinois and one of only six hospitals in Chicago to receive the distinction.

Swedish Covenant Hospital Cardiology Receives 2015 National Cardiovascular Data Registry's ACTION Registry--Platinum Performance Award
August 2015

Swedish Covenant Hospital’s Cardiology Department is a 2015 recipient of the National Cardiovascular Data Registry’s ACTION Registry-- Platinum Performance Award. To receive the Platinum Performance Award, Swedish Covenant Hospital’s cardiac heart services department had to sustain a 90 percent or better composite score on a set of best-practice performance measures used in treating heart attack patients for eight consecutive quarters, or two years. 
Swedish Covenant Hospital Earns "High Performing" Ranking

Swedish Covenant Hospital was recently ranked as a high performing hospital for heart by-pass surgery by U.S. News & World Report “Best Hospitals” Survey. The annual report surveyed nearly 5,000 hospitals nationwide and only 14% of those rated in this area received a high performing ranking. A rating of high performing indicates that a hospital was significantly better than the national average in the heart by-pass surgery specialty.

Swedish Covenant Hospital works closely with other organizations across the city to provide comprehensive health services for our patients. For example, our cancer care affiliation with Rush University Medical Center allows us to provide our community with access to specialized cancer treatment and services, without having to travel far from home. Our pediatrics affiliation with the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago brings some of the city’s best pediatric specialists right to our healing campus. And, our work with Erie Family Health Center helps us expand health services and provide high-quality, low-cost care for our community. These affiliations allow us to combine our own expertise with the skills and resources of other specialists in the city, ensuring that the needs of our patients are met.

Swedish Covenant Hospital regularly studies the health needs of the local community and identifies opportunities for improvement through collaboration and partnership. Through this process, we have provided:

• More than $5.4 million to charity and discounts to uninsured patients
• More than $2.9 million for community benefit, serving more than 297,000 individuals in 2015.
• More than 200 wellness programs annually, including support groups, prenatal classes, health lectures and cancer screenings
• Free counseling services and application assistance regarding state-sponsored insurance programs including AllKids, FamilyCare, Moms and Babies and SHIP (Senior Health Insurance Program)
• Free on-site assistance for individuals enrolling in the Illinois Health Insurance Marketplace via Swedish Covenant Hospital Certified Application Counselors
• A Community Ambassador program featuring Swedish Covenant Hospital employees who are active in the community to further strengthen partnerships, outreach and awareness
