What is a certified nurse-midwife (CNM)?
Swedish Covenant Midwifery Group
is a proud to have an excellent and diverse team of board-certified nurse-midwives that truly believe in our mission of partnering with women to empower them to be actively involved in their own health care. We strive to provide an exemplary holistic birthing experience with open communication with our patients and the rest of the team.
To earn the title of CNM, a registered advanced practice nurse must continue their training in obstetrics and gynecology and pass a board examination by the American College of Nurse-Midwives (ACNM)
. CNMs may specialize in pregnancy, childbirth, postpartum and/or well-woman care, making them an essential resource for new mothers.
Swedish Covenant Midwifery Group was recently named the only “Triple Aim” Best Practice Group in Illinois
after achieving a primary cesarean birth rate of 11.9%, preterm birth rate of 1.6% and exclusive breastfeeding at 48 hours rate of 85%. They also achieved a successful vaginal birth after cesarean rate of over 89%
What is an obstetrician?
Swedish Covenant Medical Group obstetricians
believe that all women should receive evidence-based and compassionate health care through all stages of their life. For new or experienced mothers, we provide a range of services to guide each and every woman through pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum care.
Obstetricians practice comprehensive gynecological care from adolescence to menopause. To practice as an obstetrician, individuals must graduate from medical school and complete four years of residency training on obstetrics, gynecology, gynecologic oncology, ultrasonography and preventive care.
Often, women chose to give birth with an OB/GYN they are already familiar and comfortable with. In addition, OBs specialize in assisting in high-risk pregnancy in which the mother has certain health problems, is younger than 17 or older than 35, is pregnant with more than one baby or is taking certain medications.
Regardless of which you choose, Swedish Covenant Hospital has the resources to ensure that you and your baby are safe and comfortable with how and where you receive care.
By combining a home-like atmosphere with leading-edge technology and medical specialists that are committed to the health of mother and child, we’ve made it a point to ensure you receive the very best in childbirth care.
