Lorraine Treats Degenerative Osteo-Arthritis With Personal Training

Lorraine T. is committed to Galter LifeCenter, and has been since it first opened in 1991. “I was one of the first to join,” she said. “In fact, I was exercising here before Galter LifeCenter became a reality. We exercised on the second floor where the Child Care is now.”

Lorraine is also no stranger to back pain, as she has suffered from spinal discomfort for more than 30 years. “I was told by several MD’s that I have degenerative osteo-arthritis,” she said. “As we all know, as we get older, nothing gets better.” One of those doctors, Swedish Hospital’s Dr. Randolph Chang, suggested she approach exercise medicinally, as a means to alleviate some of the discomfort caused by her condition.

Lorraine took this advice to heart and focused on improving what was already an active lifestyle. “I decided to try personal training in addition to the wonderful classes I participate in and all the other wonderful things that are offered at the Galter LifeCenter,” she said. She began to work with Sue Talbert, a personal trainer at Galter LifeCenter who became a critical component in Lorraine’s pursuit of a life with little pain.

Along with her ability to manage Lorraine’s recurring pain, Sue took it upon herself to educate Lorraine on the state-of-the-art facility in the hope that the equipment unique to Galter LifeCenter could be used to further ease her chronic discomfort. “Now she’s introduced me to Galter LifeCenter’s newest piece of equipment, the Power Plate, which has become my favorite," Lorraine said.

Sue Talbert’s inspired care did not go unnoticed. “I am proud to say that I have been training with her since 2011,” Lorraine said of Sue. “Besides all of the excellent personal training she provides, Sue is a wonderful listener and has become a great friend.”
Sue Talbert, MS Exercise Physiology, is an NASM Certified Personal Trainer and AAHFRP post rehabilitation medical exercise specialist at Galter LifeCenter. She utilizes her 20-plus years of experience and educational background to craft exercise programs for a wide range of clients, including those with special medical concerns. Sue has been employed by Galter LifeCenter since 2007.
